Dear Leaders,
Getting more women to drive and lead technology has been a focus area for all of us, as we strive to have a team that is a representation of our customer base. Many of us have also led efforts internally in our organizations to ensure that we have the right mechanisms to nurture women talent in technology. Often, we are constrained by the fact that several needle movers to this problem statement are external, while we have and will strive to continuously develop our ecosystem internally.
Across the tech industry in India, 23% of employees in technology teams across organizations are women. Research suggests that 50% of women in engineering roles quit, and a startling 73% drop rate between entry-level and senior roles. The low funnel rate (rate at which employable women enter the workforce) has been at 7%, making internal efforts an uphill battle.
We are at an important stage where we must collaborate as an industry, step out, act in unison and set up an ecosystem that alters this. We want to begin the conversation by launching a Chennai wide platform to shape the technology talent amidst us.
