Requirement: SQL DBA, Database Administrator

Job Description:

DBA will be responsible for Installation deployment, performance tuning, integrity and security of all enterprise class databases. Additional role requirements are likely to include planning, development and troubleshooting. Responsible for writing ad hoc SQL queries needed for different teams, managers, decision makers of various departments.

Technical Experience

Microsoft SQL Server (2000, 2005, 2008) installation, maintenance, & administration – 3 to 5 years of job experience

Expertise developing, streamlining Stored Procedures, database scripts, T-SQL, and SSIS – 3 to 5 years of job experience

Expertise in installation, administration, and performance maintenance in cluster environment – at least 2 years of experience

Expertise in reading, creating and understanding data models and entity relationship diagrams – 4 to 6 years of job experience

Expertise in SQL DB programming – 4 to 6 years of job experience

Expertise developing custom reports with packaged report writing tools – 3 to 5 years of job experience desired but not a must.

Experience in data warehousing will be a bonus

Typical work activities

Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security

Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users

Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline

Considering both back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility for end-users

Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model

Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements Installing and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS)

Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act/PCI

Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary(metadata)

Controlling access permissions and privileges Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans Ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly

Capacity planning Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and web developers

Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security

Monitoring the performance of reports and taking corrective actions to optimize or improve the performance of the reports as and when necessary

May have to access, import, extract, transfer or load data from heterogeneous data sources (Oracle, Text Files, Microsoft Access)

Skills Required

Communication, teamwork and negotiation skills,

Problem-solving and good analytical skills

Familiarity with the main data manipulation languages and the principles of database design

Flexibility and adaptability

Good organizational skills The ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure

The ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and/or customers

Business awareness and understanding of business requirements of IT

Willingness to keep up to date with developments in new technology Commitment to continuing professional development

Understanding of information legislation, e.g. the Data Protection Act, PCI

Knowledge of data modeling for financial investment industry.
